Auto manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover will invest over £1 million to bolster proactive law enforcement efforts, aiming to combat the rising issue of car thefts in the United Kingdom.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is increasing its funding in the UK to combat car crime, particularly organized gangs that use British ports to ship stolen SUVs, such as the popular Range Rover, overseas. This latest investment, valued at over £1 million, will boost proactive policing efforts around vehicle theft.
The move comes as part of an extensive £16 million effort by JLR to improve vehicle security. This includes updating the security software in older vehicles to better defend against professional motor thieves.
By supporting several police forces with dedicated resources to respond to vehicle thefts, JLR aims to make an impact on hotspots across the country. Additionally, funding will be allocated to establish a new national policing unit to gather intelligence and increase activity at the ports used by these criminal gangs.
The focus on Range Rover models stems from their popularity among thieves, as highlighted by the increase in vehicle thefts by 86% across England and Wales compared to 2014. These well-funded criminal groups employ expensive technology to steal high-end vehicles based on black-market demand.
JLR announced, "Specialist officers will now have more capacity to investigate these crimes," and the latest investment will lead to increased recoveries and arrests. In fact, pilot operations with two police forces have already resulted in stolen vehicle recoveries and arrests.
With a surge in luxury car thefts, especially Range Rovers, JLR has become a significant player in the fight against this growing issue. As a result, thousands of car owners have fallen victim to these organized gangs.
For further advice on reducing the risk of car theft, JLR offers additional security tips to Range Rover owners, such as activating the alarm, using the InControl Remote app, and ensuring the Secure Tracker/Secure Tracker Pro is activated (if the vehicle has this feature).
In addition, JLR is actively investing in upgrading older vehicles with the latest security technology, spending over £16 million to date. Such investments are designed to stay ahead of any emerging car theft methods and help protect owners.
By working closely with police and leveraging advanced technologies, JLR hopes to curb the ongoing luxury car theft problem and increase owner confidence in its vehicles.
- Recognizing the rising trend of luxury car theft, particularly targeting Range Rovers, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is also investing in updating the security technology of older vehicles to defend against professional motor thieves, demonstrating their commitment to combat vehicle theft.
- Beyond enhancing vehicle security, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is actively investing in the weather and sports technology sectors, hoping to provide cutting-edge features for their vehicles and protect their owners in diverse environments, thus broadening their strategic focus beyond just car insurance and crime prevention.
