Rivers State Announces New Board Appointments

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Administrator of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of chairmen and members for eight key boards in the state. The new appointments, announced on August 14, 2025, aim to foster professionalism, innovation, and public accountability.

In the Rivers State University Governing Council, Okey Wali, SAN, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, takes the helm as Chairman. The council's members include Theophilus Owhor, Uche Messiah Olowo, Soibiton Ngoji Kio Isokariari, Gogo Cookey, Sir Micheal L. Vincent, Prof. Joseph Atubokiki Ajienka, and Dr. Tamunoibikari G.S. Epelle.

The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital has Dr. Sampson Parker, former Commissioner for Health, as its new Chairman. Prof. Chizindu Alikor continues as the hospital's Chief Medical Director.

The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) will be led by Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, a former Ikwerre Local Government chairman, with Wokoma Amakiri appointed as the managing director.

Samuel Ogeh chairs the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Commission, with Monday Ledee Yimonah, Ibiene Cotton Amachree, Margaret Ngozi Ikegwuru, and John T. Pepple as members, and Pepple serving as Secretary.

Tony Egwurugwu has been appointed as Chairman of the Rivers State Senior Secondary Education Board, with Dr. Austin ThankGod Jonah, Princess Clara Denirari Woke, Nwisabari Bani Samuel, and Baniba Abella Briggs Iti as members.

Israel Egbunefu takes the reins as Chairman of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Board, with Prof. Tamunonimim Anipiworima Ngerebo, Osepiribo Ben-Willie, and Okas Wike as members.

Prof. Princewill Chike chairs the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme Board, with Dr. Vetty Agala remaining as the Executive Secretary.

Lastly, Prof. Adolphus Toby will lead the Rivers State Microfinance Agency, with five other members yet to be announced.

These appointments were officially inaugurated by Ibas on August 23, 2025. Each board is tasked with upholding the values of professionalism, innovation, and public accountability in their duties.
