"Authorities Respond to Abusive Treatment: NYSC Female Member Stripped, Attacked by Security Personnel in Anambra (footage included)"

The Anambra State Police Command is currently investigating an incident involving the assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, by operatives of the joint security task force known as Operation Udo Gatchi.

The unfortunate incident occurred on July 23, 2025, during a search of houses as part of their mandate. According to reports, the operatives, while accusing the corps members of being internet fraudsters, brutally beat and stripped the female member naked despite her showing her NYSC ID and uniform [1][3][4].

The video of the incident has gone viral on the internet, generating anger among residents and social media users, who are demanding justice and accountability from the authorities. The Haven 360 Foundation and the West Africa Youth Protection and Advocacy Network (WAYPAN) strongly condemned the attack and called for justice and protection of corps members’ rights [1][5].

The operatives involved in the incident have been taken into custody and are under investigation. Disciplinary measures have been initiated against them for their unacceptable actions [4]. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, described the action of the security operatives as totally wrong and unacceptable [6].

Ikenga assured that the victim will get justice and the Command remains committed to ensuring residents' safety. The victim, along with NYSC officials, was invited to Ikeng's office for testimonies, but she was away for medical treatment, promising to come to his office [2].

Operation Udo Gatchi is a joint security task force comprising the Police, Army, DSS, Civil Defence, and the state's security outfit, Agbunechemba. The task force was established under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 [7].

While the investigation is ongoing, there is currently no publicly available detailed update on formal investigation outcomes or disciplinary actions taken against the Anambra security operatives involved. The NYSC Management officially condemned the assault and called for appropriate action to be taken, but no specific public update has been announced about the progress or conclusion of the investigation [4].

The Anambra State Government and the security operatives involved in the incident have been urged to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that such incidents do not occur again in the future. The safety and rights of all residents, including NYSC members, must be protected and respected.
