Wadephul on Maischberger: Iran Regime "Bane of the Iranian People"
Authorities in Iran intensify search operations for the populace within the country
By Marko Schlichting
German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, ripped into the Iranian regime on Sandra Maischberger's show, yet he intends to chat with Iran's foreign minister on Friday in a bid to end the war with Israel. He's not keen on intervention by the U.S., for the time being.
Five weeks into his gig, Wadephul is juggling two conflicts. In the Israel-Iran standoff, he aims to collaborate with the UK and French counterparts on Friday to discuss Iran's nuclear program with the Iranian foreign minister, seeking assurance that Iran only seeks nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

However, Wadephul acknowledges that Iran will need significant confidence-building measures. "This regime is ruthless, repressing its own populace," he said on Maischberger's talkshow. "We've witnessed close to 900 executions in Iran this year." On the matter of a potential regime change in Iran, possibly preferred by Israel, Wadephul stated, "Let's not kid ourselves there's anything decent about this regime. It's atrocious. It's a plague upon the Iranian people. But it's the Iranian people who should decide who governs them." Wadephul contends that Israel doesn't desire a change in Iran's regime, as per statements from the Israeli foreign minister.
The U.S. is said to abstain from intervening in the conflict, according to Wadephul, whom cites American Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments. Despite this, he's confident: "The Yanks are preparing for reprisals. It's a clear message to Iran: negotiate and don't attack."
The German government is standing beside Israel in this conflict, Wadephul said: "We agree that this Iranian regime seeks to annihilate Israel. If Israel's government determines that Iran is now equipped to do so with nuclear weapons, long-range missiles, and other weaponry, then Israel has the right to defend itself. Iran poses a threat to Israel, and we must support Israel in diplomacy."

Yet Wadephul is among the rare Union politicians to criticize Israel, particularly its actions in Gaza. "We face an unbearable humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israel, despite its rights to self-defense and every excuse to battle Hamas terrorists, has virtually sealed off the Gaza Strip from any humanitarian assistance, including food and medicine," said the CDU politician. "Israel is launching a vicious war there, where it has become impossible to distinguish Hamas fighters from civilians. I stand in a Christian party, and all human lives hold equal value in the end."
Germany bears immense responsibility for the security and existence of the State of Israel. "But we can still question the actions of this government," Wadephul demands. "Of course, Hamas must be disarmed. Of course, Hamas must finally release the hostages. It's all dreadful. Nevertheless, it's true: A democratic justice system like Israel, even when battling a terrorist organization, deserves scrutiny. And that should be reflected."

The German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, has stated that the Iranian regime, which he described as a "plague upon the Iranian people," is ruthless and represses its own populace.
The Commission is also proposing to extend the deadline for the adoption of new rules regarding the Iran-Israel conflict, as Germany stands beside Israel in this standoff, recognizing the threat Iran poses to Israel and the need for Israel to defend itself if Iran is equipped with nuclear weapons, long-range missiles, and other weaponry.
