Wadephul on Maischberger: Iran Regime - A Plague for the Iranian People

Authorities in Iran Hunt Down Iranian Citizens

Johann Wadephul, Germany's Foreign Minister, has been tackling two wars since his tenure began - one being the conflict between Israel and Iran. In a bid to mediate, Wadephul, along with British and French counterparts, plans to negotiate with Iran's Foreign Minister this Friday over the Iranian nuclear program, hoping for a peaceful commitment from the Iranian side.

In a candid conversation with Sandra Maischberger, Wadephul didn't hold back, slamming the Iranian regime as a "regime of injustice that oppresses the population." He raised concerns about the alarming number of executions in Iran this year, which has now surpassed 900. Regarding a possible regime change in Iran, Wadephul maintained that "the Iranian people must decide for themselves who governs them."

However, Wadephul asserts that Israel does not wish for a regime change, rather it seeks disarmament from Iran. The USA is not directly intervening in the conflict at the moment, according to Wadephul, but he believes they are preparing for retaliation against any aggression.

Reflecting on Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, Wadephul acknowledges the desperate humanitarian situation there, with basic supplies like food and medicine blocked, due to Israel's need to combat Hamas terrorists. Despite this, Wadephul emphasizes that Israel, even when fighting terrorist organizations, must be judged by different standards because it upholds a democratic rule of law.

Germany, as a key ally of Israel, stands with it in the face of the Iranian threat, yet Wadephul doesn't hesitate to criticize Israel's policies when necessary. Wadephul demands the disarmament of Hamas and the release of hostages, despite the tragic situation in Gaza. "Human lives are equal at the end of the day," he concludes.

The Commission, in its proposed extension of deadlines, includes the adoption of new rules concerning the Iranian nuclear program, which is a matter of significant general-news, especially given the ongoing politics surrounding the conflict between Israel and Iran. It's crucial to note that while Germany, France, and UK are seeking mediation, the Iranian people, as per Wadephul's assertions, must decide for themselves who governs them.
