Authorities have issued a summons for parents, accused of keeping their daughter confined

In a recent development, the High Court in Bangladesh has ordered an investigation into the alleged forced confinement of Dr. Farah Dina, a 40-year-old psychologist, who disappeared in August. The court has summoned Dr. Farah Dina's parents, Md Delwar Hossain and Rowshan Ara Delwar, to present their daughter before the court on 20 August at 11am.

The court's action follows a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Dr. Farah Dina by her friends, Barrister Sharmin Laila Tonny and Dr. Tohfa-e-Ayub, after she went missing from her workplace, Al-Baraka Hospital, on 9 August. The petition highlighted that Dr. Farah Dina was forcibly confined for nearly four months in a mental hospital in 2018, a claim that has raised concerns about her rights and treatment during that period.

During the court hearing on 14 August, the High Court bench, composed of Justices Fahmida Quader and Sayed Zahid Mansur, issued the order following the habeas corpus petition. Barrister Asif Bin Anwar represented the petitioners during the hearing.

The habeas corpus petition is a legal action seeking the release of a person from unlawful detention. In this case, the petitioners are seeking to ensure Dr. Farah Dina's safety and freedom, and to investigate the circumstances surrounding her previous confinement in a mental hospital in 2018.

The petitioners also stated that prior to her disappearance, Dr. Farah Dina was staying at her parents' residence in Uttara. The court's order marks a significant step in the ongoing judicial scrutiny of the alleged confinement and the treatment Dr. Farah Dina received during her previous hospitalisation.

As the investigation unfolds, it is hoped that the truth will be uncovered and justice will be served for Dr. Farah Dina. For updates on the case, monitoring local court announcements or trusted news sources covering Bangladesh judiciary proceedings would be necessary.
