Authorities continue their search for the WNBA offender following an incident where a sex toy was thrown during the Wings vs. Liberty game, hitting a 12-year-old girl.

In the ongoing 2025 WNBA season, multiple sex toy throwing incidents have disrupted games, most notably on August 6. At the Barclays Center during the New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky Wings game, and at the Crypto.com Arena during the Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks matchup, fans threw green dildo-like sex toys onto the court[1].

These incidents are part of a pattern where such behaviour has occurred repeatedly, despite previous arrests and attempts to curb this unacceptable conduct[1]. The latest arrest was made following the Sun vs. Mercury game, as Kaden Lopez was detained by Phoenix police inside PHX Arena after allegedly hitting another fan and their 9-year-old niece with a sex toy[2]. Lopez appeared in court on Wednesday[3].

Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has spoken out against this issue, stating that the sexualization of women is at the root of the problem[4]. She believes it is not funny and should not be the subject of jokes or comments. The WNBA New York Liberty team is cooperating with the police during the ongoing investigation into the incident at Barclays Center[5].

The WNBA has issued a statement, clarifying that violators could face charges[6]. However, no detailed league-wide statistics or comprehensive official policy updates on the incidents are publicly available as of now[1]. The ongoing nature of these incidents might imply that existing responses have not fully deterred such behaviour yet[1].

The NYPD is investigating multiple arrests related to similar incidents at WNBA games, and has released a photo and video clip of a man accused of striking a 12-year-old girl with a sex toy during a WNBA game[7]. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office will make the final decision on prosecution[8].

Previously, Sophie Cunningham, a Fever guard, spoke out after nearly being hit with an object at a WNBA game[9]. Not all objects that have been thrown reached the court, but the safety and well-being of everyone in WNBA arenas is a top priority for the league[10].

As the 2025 season continues, the WNBA is working to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all fans, players, and staff. The league remains committed to taking action against those who disrupt games with inappropriate behaviour.
