Mangystau Cracks Down on Firearms Misuse with Qaru-2021 Event
Authorities confiscated forty illicit firearms in Mangystau region.
In an effort to stem the tide of firearm-related crimes, Mangystau region kicked off the operational and preventive event "Qaru-2021." The month-long campaign, which ran from May 17 to June 17, saw police seize 40 illegal firearms, 116 ammunition, and eight electric weapons.
The intensive drive saw detectives nab 28 cases of unlawful weapon and ammunition storage, report Total.kz. A total of 187 administrative offenses under Articles 484, 486 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the RK were also uncovered. This extensive crackdown on firearms misuse extended even to 1289 livestock farms within the region.
On June 4, counter-extremism authorities made a significant arrest outside the city, detaining two locals, aged 33 and 43, in a coordinated action. During a search of their workplaces, officers discovered a revolver-like weapon, a pneumatic gun, and a dagger. A preliminary investigation is ongoing.
