Authorities confirm: Shymkent's Governor has been delivered to Toqaev
In a significant meeting held in August 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Mayor Gabit Syzdykbekov discussed the current state of Shymkent's economic and infrastructure development. The discussion revealed a city on the cusp of remarkable progress.
The economic growth in Shymkent is evident, with investments in fixed assets skyrocketing by 31% to reach 360 billion tenge in the first half of 2025. Industrial production has also seen a substantial increase, amounting to approximately 680 billion tenge. This growth has led to an expansion in the number of small and medium-sized businesses, which now exceed 139,000, providing employment for around 245,000 people.
Shymkent's industrial potential is being expanded through the launch of new industrial zones named "Zhuldyz" and "Bozaryk". These zones are expected to foster further growth and development in the city.
The construction sector in Shymkent is also booming, with over 517,000 square meters of housing commissioned this year. This active growth is a testament to the city's commitment to providing adequate housing for its citizens.
Infrastructure modernization is another key focus for Shymkent. Major projects, such as the completion of a new airport terminal and the reconstruction of the railway station, have been successfully executed. Under the National Project "Keleshek Mektepteri," 12 schools, a "Palace of Schoolchildren," a mini-football center, and a sports complex have been put into operation, addressing the need for improved social facilities.
President Tokayev emphasized the importance of careful budget planning at both national and local levels, highlighting the necessity for balanced financing and long-term regional plans. This emphasis likely reflects his support for continued development in cities like Shymkent.
In addition to these achievements, President Tokayev gave instructions on diversifying Shymkent's economy, attracting additional investments, strengthening support for small and medium-sized businesses, constructing a new runway at the airport, solving the problem of a shortage of school places, providing housing for citizens, and modernizing road infrastructure.
Mayor Syzdykbekov reported that Shymkent is actively developing, with key projects being completed and more on the horizon. The city's progress is evident in the 2,743 additional streets that have been lit this year, the commissioning of the southern bypass road and two large transport interchanges, and the launch of the mini-football center and sports complex.
In conclusion, Shymkent is experiencing robust socio-economic development characterized by increased investment, industrial expansion, improved infrastructure, and social facilities enhancement as of mid-2025. The city's future looks bright as it continues to grow and develop under President Tokayev's guidance.
