Authorities apprehended suspect accused of deliberately causing a collision involving Republican Representative Max Miller.
Incident Sparks Outcry Over Rising Antisemitism in America
Join our website correspondent David Spunt for a deep dive into the escalating issue of antisemitism in America, as scandal engulfs the murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers and a shocking road rage incident involving Congressman Max Miller.
During a chilling ordeal on a Ohio highway, Republican Representative Max Miller and his family narrowly escaped harm at the hands of an "insane, radicalized individual" waving a Palestinian flag. In a statement on social media, Miller explained, "The relentless hatred in this country is spiraling out of control. Today, I was nearly run off the road in Rocky River, and my life and the lives of my family were put in grave danger by a maniac who brandished a Palestinian flag before peeling off."
The suspect, identified as Feras S. Hamdam, was promptly apprehended by the Rocky River Police Department after they obtained an arrest warrant. Now awaiting court, Hamdam faces charges for aggravated menacing and ethnic intimidation in relation to the antisemitic nature of the threats.
Though the incident marks a troubling new development in the rapidly growing problem of antisemitic violence, it's not the first time Miller has encountered such hostility. As a proud Jewish American and staunch supporter of Israel, Miller vowed to remain undeterred in his fight against antisemitism and other forms of bigotry.
The incident on I-90 follows a trend of politically motivated attacks on lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties. Most recently, two prominent state officials in Minnesota suffered gunshot wounds in their homes, with two fatalities and two survivors. Moreover, antisemitic incidents and hate crimes against Jewish Americans have increased significantly in recent years, especially in the wake of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, according to the Anti-Defamation League, an international organization dedicated to combating hatred and bigotry.
Rocky River Police continue their investigation alongside Capitol Police, the Ohio State Patrol, and the FBI. While Miller firmly stated, "We have effectively identified the perpetrator, and he will face justice," the larger question looms: how do we address and eradicate the rising tide of antisemitism and hate-driven violence in America?
