Authorities Apprehend Sought-After Socialite, Aisha Achimugu

Bussiness magnate and socialite, Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, has landed in hot waters with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Her legal team confirmed her arrest at the airport on the morning of April 29, 2025.

Chikaosolu Ojukwu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, disclosed the news to press. Previously, Achimugu's lawyers had shared their intent to have their client comply with an ongoing EFCC investigation by appearing in court on April 29, 2025. The arrest contradicts the legal team's agreement made with the court, as per Ojukwu.

Achimugu, a revered figure in the business sphere, serves as the Group Managing Director and CEO of Felak Concept Group—an influential company stretching across engineering, maritime, oil & gas, and technology sectors, often associated with Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Investigations against Aisha Achimugu by the EFCC have been brewing since March 2025. These revolve around accusations of criminal conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretense, money laundering, and corruption involving millions of naira [3][5]. A previous search at her Abuja home uncovered approximately 30 million naira, $50,000, and valuable boxes containing gold, silver, and diamonds, estimated to be over a billion naira [2].

Controversy arose when Achimugu's legal team filed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit against various Nigerian agencies, intending to shelter her from arrest or detention. The EFCC, for its part, claimed that Achimugu disregarded bail terms by ignoring further invitations [5].

Justice Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, ordered Achimugu's presence before the EFCC on April 29, 2025, and demanded a report on her compliance on April 30, 2025. Despite this, Achimugu has clearly indicated her readiness to cooperate with the EFCC [4].

At present, the legal proceedings and the details surrounding her detention are unfolding, with her lawyers vowing that this is a violation of her rights enshrined in the rule of law. While media is buzzing with news of her arrest, no concrete information was found regarding Achimugu engaging in a hunger strike.
