Authoritarian and Disgraceful Actions Taken - "Authoritarian and Disgraceful": US Senate Member Forcibly Removed from Press Conference

Cali-based Democratic US Senator Alex Padilla faced a hefty, rough extraction from a press conference hosted by Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem. The roughshod treatment occurred when Padilla, in a bold move, interrupted Noem mid-speech about LA protests. Senators usually hold a revered position in the US of A, making this spectacle out of the ordinary.

A video captured the episode. Padilla clearly identified himself and his position before shouting, "I've got questions," as Noem was still spilling the tea. Security jumped in, seized him, and mercilessly tossed him out the room. Padilla yelled, "Hands off me," before meeting the ground beneath him, caught by the mighty grip of FBI agents and cuffed in the hallway. Word from the Department of Homeland Security was that the Secret Service mistook Padilla as an assailant, forcing such a severe response. Padilla had interrupted the conference unannounced and plowed towards Noem, unmarked.

Senator Padilla: "We're Going to Call 'Em Out"

Padilla described the episode on his social media account: "I was peaceful. At one moment, I wanted to ask a question. So, I posed that query. I was almost violently ejected from the hemisphere... I wasn't booked. I wasn't caged. But let's get this straight: If this administration treats a senator's question that way... consider what they're doing to migrant workers, cooks, day laborers in the whole LA community, throughout California, and across the nation. We're going to call 'em out."

Padilla has been in the Capitol Hill Club since 2021. He stepped in for Kamala Harris after she became VP under Joe Biden. Padilla, a Mexican immigrant's son, is the initial Latino to stand for Cali in the Senate.

US Homeland Security Secretary Slams Senator

Noem addressed the incident during the ongoing conference. She wasn't personally acquainted with the senator and took a dig at him for his actions, remarking, "Everyone in the land of the free would likely concur that such behavior was improper." Subsequent conversations between Noem and Cali Governor Gavin Newsom were unproductive, to say the least.

Newsom ultimately publicly slammed the senator as one of the most upright he knows. "This is outrageous, authoritarian, and a disgrace." The Trump Brigade has lost it, he said, and it needs to cease and desist.

Later, the Department of Homeland Security announced a 15-minute conversation between Noem and Padilla post-episode.
