Austria’s 2026 vehicle tax overhaul introduces digital and red adhesive options

Austria’s vehicle tax system is changing in 2026 with new adhesive and digital news. Both options will cost the same, but drivers must follow updated rules for application and removal. The old sea-green stickers remain valid only until the end of January next year.

From February 1, 2026, motorists must display either the new fire-red adhesive news or a digital version. The adhesive option will be available from December 1, 2025, while the digital one can already be purchased for short-term use. Pricing stays identical for both formats: €106.80 for 10-day, two-month, or annual passes. The one-day news, however, is only offered digitally.

The new news system introduces a digital option while keeping costs unchanged. Drivers must ensure proper placement and removal to avoid penalties. The old sea-green stickers will no longer be valid after January 31, 2026.
