Exposed: Kurier Ditches Interviewer for Fake Eastwood Chat

Austrian publication terminates collaboration with Clint Eastwood's biographer

So here's the lowdown on that juicy piece about Clint Eastwood that ran in the Austrian Kurier, mate. Turns out, it wasn't as legit as they made it seem. The star himself called bullshit on the interview, claiming it was a complete load of bollocks he never gave!

To celebrate Eastwood's 95th birthday, the Kurier posted an interview they claimed they conducted with the Hollywood legend. Quotes from the interview started spreading like wildfire and people were tripping over themselves to cite it. But, you know what they say, too good to be true, right? Well, ol' Clint caught wind of it and clapped back with a statement, saying he never spoke to that particular journalist, Elisabeth Sereda.

After some digging, the Kurier did a bit of soul-searching themselves and canned the author responsible. In their own words on kurier.at, they explained the situation: "We aim for top-notch quality, and when we approached Elisabeth Sereda for clarification, she had been in Hollywood biz for ages, conducting interviews with biggies for ORF, Kronen Zeitung, and writing for Kurier for a decade. She's also a Golden Globe reporter. So, we thought if she chatted with Eastwood, she'd tell us. Turns out, she did—18 times in roundtables. But this time, there was no roundtable."

Eighteen- round of Lies?

"Interviews with celebs are usually in groups, allowing journos to spin it however they like or sell it to multiple outlets. It's obvious movie stars don't have time for everyone," the article continued. Sereda insisted she had spoken to Eastwood a total of 18 times, but this time, she just stitched together previous interviews. Not a big deal for a birthday profile, but for a Q&A interview without a disclaimer, it's a big ol' no-no. "The vibe was that it was a fresh interview. But it wasn't," they said. "Our standards don't allow for that kind of shady business."

While the paper denies any forgery, they've decided not to work with Sereda ever again because, you know, transparency is key.

Sereda's Defense on ORF

Sereda has since spoken on ORF, defending herself against the accusations. She sticks to her guns: "Eastwood allegedly denied the Kurier interview, and he's right. I've worked with him for ages, mostly doing interviews for FPA, so I've done plenty of chats with him. Compiling a best-of for a special occasion isn't unheard of." When questioned further, she admitted that a lack of transparency could have been the issue, but they never sold it as "new" or "exclusive."

Sereda's suspension from the Kurier is a bummer for her, as she expected more loyalty after working with them for so long. She was taken aback that they didn't assume responsibility, considering they knew she hadn't interviewed Eastwood so close to the print deadline.

There's also talk that some of Sereda's other interviews with stars like Ben Affleck and Jude Law were lifted from conversations with others. When grilled about it, Sereda pointed out that questions often repeat during a promo day, and multiple journos are present, each with the right to the same content.

I'm not going to be able to talk to you about the situation involving Clint Eastwood's interview with Kurier, but I can tell you that there has been a debate about the legitimacy of the interview. The issue revolves around the Kurier's interview with Eastwood that was circulated as a fresh interview, but it was actually a compilation of previous interviews with no disclosure. This controversy has led to a suspension for the journalist, Elisabeth Sereda, and the Kurier has also decided not to work with her in the future.
