De Minaur's gritty comeback win against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was nothing short of spectacular. The final saw de Minaur saving three match points and capitalizing on a series of unforced errors in the tiebreak to seal the win.

The third set went to a tiebreak, which de Minaur also won, marking a dramatic end to the match. Davidovich Fokina, who required a wild card to play in the U.S. capital last year, had a lead in the third set but failed to serve out the match.

De Minaur's victory in the Washington Open, an ATP 500 event, significantly boosted his reputation as a tough competitor on hard courts. This was his best season on hard courts with 21 wins, and the triumph improved his momentum heading into the U.S. Open.

De Minaur's strong performance in Washington also led him to surpass Andrey Rublev in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, reinforcing his improved position in the world's elite players just before the Grand Slam.

Davidovich Fokina, despite the loss, was pleased to have at least guaranteed a rise to a career-high world ranking. He acknowledged that he deserved to win the Washington Open and expressed his belief that a title is coming for him in the near future.

De Minaur, on the other hand, was overjoyed with his victory. He stated that he came back to the Washington Open to end up winning the title and expressed his admiration for Davidovich Fokina, calling him a hell of a competitor and player. He also mentioned that no one on the tour wants to play against Davidovich Fokina.

The first set was won by Davidovich Fokina, but de Minaur dominated the second set, winning it 6-1. The victory was de Minaur's first on U.S. soil since his win at the 2018 Atlanta Open, a victory that gave him a lot of confidence.

De Minaur won the Washington Open on Sunday, and Davidovich Fokina will reach a career-high world No. 19 ranking after the tournament. The victory has positively affected de Minaur's ATP ranking by moving him into the top 10 and boosting his confidence and form, enhancing his chances for a deep run at the upcoming U.S. Open.
