Down Under Dynamos: Beau Webster and Cameron Green Ready for ICC World Test Championship
Australian cricketer Webster looks forward to teaming up with "Exceptional player" Green for the World Test Championship final.
Melbourne, Australia - It's all about all-rounders down under! With the ICC World Test Championship Final against South Africa looming, Aussie all-rounders Beau Webster and Cameron Green are set to steal the show.
Since his international debut against India at the SCG in January 2025, Webster has proven himself to be a dependable all-round option for the Aussie Test setup. His three Test outings, netting 150 runs (including a fifty) and three wickets, dazzled the selectors enough to get him a spot in the championship final squad kicking off June 11.
Boosting his claims further during his county stint with Warwickshire, Webster brought home 172 runs and ten wickets from his four outings. This seamless transition in form follows his impressive 2024 performances for Gloucestershire, where he bagged 233 runs and 16 wickets in four games.
On the horizon, Green, Australia's other pace all-rounder, has also made his presence felt with his spectacular batting, scoring three centuries from only five county games for Gloucestershire. Despite a minor setback with a back surgery, Green is now on the mend, yet to bowl in English conditions.
With Green's potential to swing the bat, and Webster's all-round adeptness, it's a tantalizing prospect to imagine these two battling alongside each other.
Commenting on the exciting prospect of gracing the same pitch, Webster said, "He [Green] is a generational talent and a phenomenal cricketer." Apparently, Australia's newest superstar all-rounder believes Green can only get better. "He is only going to get better. He is only 25, so he has got a lot of cricket ahead of him," Webster shared.
Webster acknowledged what's at stake: "I do not know what the make-up of the top six is going to be, or which way they are going to go with in terms of all-rounders, but I am certainly hoping we can both be in there."
Hoping to catch the selectors' discerning eyes and secure his spot in Australia's title defense against South Africa, Webster spoke about his aspirations regarding his performance in England. "I like testing myself with the Dukes ball in different conditions... Whoever gets the nod for that final is going to be raring to go."
Though both all-rounders might share the same position, one player's name could be the scapegoat for the benefit of the other – Marnus Labuschagne, for instance. Webster backed the versatile Labuschagne, who's thus far averaged 9.00 in three county innings, to perform exceptionally in the summit clash. "When he is at his best, he is unbelievable. His record speaks for itself… Whatever gets the nod for that final is going to be raring to go."
Webster's whirlwind international career began with an impressive debut at the start of 2025 in the Sydney Test against India, joining the Aussie team courtesy of Green's absence and Mitch Marsh's less-than-impressive returns in the summer. However, the young gun remains humble: "I am very, very proud of what I have done, but it is only the start and I am looking to build on what I have started in the Baggy Green."
Webster reminisced about his most memorable moment – hitting the winning runs at the SCG to secure the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for Australia by a 3-1 margin. "It was a bit of a whirlwind... To this day, it was my favourite cricketing moment, without a doubt."
