Australian Army Head meets General Dwivedi; exploration of ways to strengthen defense partnerships undertaken
Lieutenant General Simon Stuart's Visit to India Strengthens Defence Ties
Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, the Australian Army Chief, is in India for a four-day visit from August 11 to August 14, 2025. The visit aims to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and enhance strategic engagement between the two nations.
The visit commenced with Lieutenant General Stuart calling on General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Indian Army. The discussions focused on deepening military-to-military engagement for regional stability and global peace. The Australian Army Chief also met with the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
During his visit, Lieutenant General Stuart will interact with Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, in Pune. He will also visit the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, in Pune, where he is scheduled to address the cadets on leadership, joint training, and cooperation.
On Tuesday, Lieutenant General Stuart will visit Agra to visit the 50 Parachute Brigade and interact with all ranks. Afterwards, he will return to Delhi to deliver a keynote address at the National Defence College.
The visit underscores the shared commitment of both nations towards a stable, secure, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region, according to the defense ministry. The discussions and meetings are aimed at reinforcing the shared commitment to regional stability and global peace.
Lieutenant General Stuart was briefed on Operation Sinbdoor and India's security perspective. The visit also emphasises consolidating the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in the military domain, to maintain a stable and rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit reaffirms the commitment of both nations to a dynamic and evolving defence partnership that supports regional security and stability.
In addition to official engagements, Lieutenant General Stuart will visit the iconic Taj Mahal on Tuesday. The visit aims to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and enhance strategic engagement between the two nations.
