Australian adolescent Gout Gout enjoys his inaugural performance at the world championships
In the bustling National Stadium in Tokyo, a new star was born. 17-year-old Gout Gout, born to South Sudanese parents, made his senior international debut at the World Championships, and he didn't disappoint.
Gout, who was compared to the legendary Usain Bolt due to similar age-grade progression, expressed his admiration for the Jamaican sprinter, calling him the "actor everyone looks up to." To his delight, Bolt was present in the stadium to witness his debut.
Competing alongside Olympic champions Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, and other experienced sprinters, Gout found the step-up to the senior ranks a shock. However, his older rivals helped him adapt, with Lyles acting as a mentor-like figure.
Gout qualified for the semi-finals of the competition, with a personal best this season of 20.02 seconds. His goal in Tokyo was to run under 20 seconds in the 200m sprint. In his heat, he advanced with a time of 20.23 seconds.
Despite his impressive performance, Gout acknowledged that his starts are not his strong suit. He plans to focus on himself rather than being star-struck by his rivals. His running style, he described, is running with freedom, like a horse running with the wind.
Gout expressed happiness about competing on the world stage. Despite not being mentioned in the available search results prior to the Championships, he has certainly made a name for himself now. With his sights set on the future, Gout is determined to continue making strides in the world of athletics.
