Australia reshapes 2026-27 contracts with eight new faces for packed schedule

Cricket Australia has announced its 21-player men's central contract list for the 2026-27 season. The updated roster reflects changes in selection priorities ahead of a busy international schedule.

Eight players—Xavier Bartlett, Brendan Doggett, Nathan Ellis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Jake Weatherald, and Beau Webster—have secured new deals. However, some familiar names have been left out this time.

The new list trims last year's 23-player squad down to 21, aligning with Australia's packed fixtures. Over the next season, the team will face Test series against Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, India, and England. ODI matches are also scheduled against Zimbabwe and South Africa, alongside a home T20I series with England.

Fast-bowling options have been bolstered with Brendan Doggett and Michael Neser earning contracts. Todd Murphy's inclusion signals preparation for the 2027 India tour, especially with Nathan Lyon's recent injury concerns. Jake Weatherald retains his spot, reinforcing his role as a Test opener. Notably, Glenn Maxwell misses out due to fewer T20I matches planned. Jhye Richardson, despite a recent Test return, has also been dropped. Sam Konstas, previously contracted as a long-term opening prospect, was not retained this year.

The revised contract list sets Australia's focus on Test and ODI commitments over the next 12 months. With eight new additions and key exclusions, the squad now prepares for a demanding schedule across formats. Selection decisions reflect both immediate needs and long-term planning for tours ahead.
