Australia, in contrast to the EU, has already unveiled its fresh national objective for climate change - Australia Introduces National Climate Goal

The deadline for signatory nations to present their new national climate goals, as per the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, passed earlier this year. However, only ten of the nearly 200 signatory parties have complied with the original deadline. In response, the United Nations (UN) has extended the deadline to the end of September.

The World Climate Conference in Belém (COP30) is scheduled to take place from November 10th, and it is expected that the new national climate goals will be presented during this conference. The UN extension gives nations more time to prepare their updated targets and submit them before COP30.

One country that has already presented its new climate protection target is Australia. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese unveiled the new target aiming to reduce emissions by 62 to 70 percent by 2035 compared to 2005 levels. This ambitious goal is a significant step towards addressing climate change and meeting the commitments made under the Paris Agreement.

Unfortunately, not all countries have been as prompt in their efforts. The European Union (EU) states have yet to agree on a new EU climate goal. While a provisional solution is expected by COP30, it remains to be seen whether the EU will meet the extended deadline.

The Paris Climate Agreement requires signatory states to regularly review and improve their national climate protection goals. With the deadline fast approaching, it is crucial for nations to take action and submit their updated targets. COP30 will serve as a platform for countries to share their progress and commitments towards addressing climate change.

As we move towards COP30, it is essential to remember the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for collective action. The extended deadline provides an opportunity for nations to step up and present their new climate goals, contributing to a more sustainable future for all.
