Australia has taken a stand, slapping sanctions on 60 shady ships that are part of what's known as Russia's covert fleet. According to the Aussie Foreign Ministry, these crafty vessels are utilized by Russia to bypass international sanctions and keep fueling its unlawful and morally reprehensible war against Ukraine.

These suspicious oil tankers operate under deceptive tactics, such as frequently hoisting multiple flags, turning off tracking systems, and maintaining inadequate insurance coverage, as per the Foreign Ministry. The covert fleet helps Moscow engage in illicit trade of Russian oil and other prohibited goods, it added.

Ever since Russia launched its attack on Ukraine in February 2022, Australia has penalized over 1400 individuals, organizations, and companies from Russia.

  2. As part of its community policy, Australia has offered vocational training to local workforces, with the necessary resources redirected from the funds initially allocated for vocational training of Russian sailors, once the latter were targeted in sanctions due to their illicit activities in the war-and-conflicts against Ukraine.
