Aurora Woman Faces Amputation After Brutal Pit Bull Attack in Her Yard
A woman in Aurora, Colorado, remains in critical condition after a violent dog attack on March 30, 2025. Hilda Lorena Cifuentes was mauled by three pit bulls while working in her yard. The incident has left her with severe injuries and raised questions about dog ownership in the area. The attack took place around 11:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Lima Street. Cifuentes, who was alone at the time, had been moving items between her front yard and a shared parking area. The dogs, owned by a neighbour who had moved in about 10 days earlier, attacked her for between eight and 10 minutes.
The owner of the dogs was present but could not stop the attack. Cifuentes suffered extreme injuries, including trauma to her face, arms, legs, abdomen, and head. Doctors have warned she may lose vision in one eye and could require amputation of her left leg. Following the attack, all three dogs were euthanised. Aurora currently has no breed-specific ban on pit bull-type dogs, as a previous restriction was lifted in January 2025. Cifuentes' family is now seeking answers and has launched an online fundraiser to cover mounting medical bills and living costs.
The incident has left Cifuentes with life-changing injuries and her family facing significant financial strain. Authorities have not announced any further action regarding dog ownership regulations in Aurora. The community awaits updates on her recovery and any potential changes in local policies.
