FC Augsburg Draw Against Pisa SC in Pre-Season Friendly

FC Augsburg secured a dramatic 2:2 draw against Italian Serie A newcomers Pisa SC in a pre-season friendly, overturning a 2:0 deficit thanks to two goals from Steve Mounié in the 72nd and 83rd minutes.

Prior to Mounié's goals, Pisa SC had led comfortably, with the visitors taking a 2:0 advantage into the second half. However, coach Sandro Wagner gave opportunities to the second string, and the German side fought back valiantly.

The match against Pisa SC was not FC Augsburg's first competitive match of the season. They had already played a few warm-up games, including a 0-1 loss to Premier League club AFC Sunderland in their final friendly. The match at the WWK Arena on August 9, 2025, saw Sunderland's Habib Diarra score the only goal in the 14th minute.

The game against Sunderland was a challenging contest, with both teams missing penalties. Sunderland had a penalty opportunity after a foul by Augsburg's captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, but Eliezer Mayenda missed by shooting over the bar. Later, Augsburg was awarded a penalty after Mert Kömür was fouled, but Phillip Tietz’s shot was saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

Despite the loss, Augsburg had more possession but struggled to break down Sunderland's defense throughout the match. The game featured intense midfield battles and was notable for FC Augsburg wearing their new “Roman Kit,” which was well received by fans.

FC Augsburg will now prepare for their season opener against North East Regional League side Hallescher FC, which will be broadcast on Sky. The final warm-up game for FC Augsburg is scheduled for Saturday against Premier League club AFC Sunderland.

With the new season just around the corner, FC Augsburg will be eager to build on their pre-season performances and challenge for a strong position in the Bundesliga.

FC Augsburg's upcoming match against AFC Sunderland, on the scheduled date of Saturday, will not only serve as their final warm-up game before the new season but also gives the team an opportunity to showcase their skills in European leagues, particularly football. This fixture against Sunderland could potentially provide insights into their performance in Serie A, as well as other European leagues.
