- Audience witnesses Günther Jauch's deep, intimate revelations
Günther Jauch may appear omniscient to millions of TV viewers, earning that reputation over a quarter-century as the game master of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?". But, according to a mischievous member of the audience, Jauch might've missed his fair share of school answers back in the day, hinting at a lackluster GPA.
In the recent installment of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", the host couldn't help but confront his school days, thanks to a sharp-tongued audience member. The 16,000 Euro question befuddled the contestant, so the man, who fancied himself an actor, entered the scene as a lifeline. The question was: "Who are Quasimodo's chums in Disney's 'The Hunchback of Notre-Dame', fittingly the stone gargoyles..."
Digging Up the Past on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"
To help the hapless contestant out, the lifeline opted for "Victor and Hugo" but, in the process, he slipped up, pronouncing the names differently than they are in the film. Jauch promptly pointed out this minor oversight, leading to the man divulging his educational past. "I didn't study French myself," he admitted. To which Jauch quipped, "Neither did I, for the most part." About as tactful as a sledgehammer, the man then taunted, "Your GPA is 3.4, Mr. Jauch."
The 68-year-old media magnate couldn't remain quiet, and he practically flew off the handle over this bold presumption: "I vehemently reject that with indignation!" The wise-guy from the audience countered that he had been prepping for his "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" audition for an age, and Jauch's GPA was apparently a million-dollar question in the show's quiz app.
In the end, the host had to lay his cards on the table and disclosed his actual GPA: 3.1. While not the top of the class, he insisted his GPA only mattered for college admissions, and nobody has asked him about it since.
