auctioning off Animation History and Rare items to gather funds for Los Angeles Wildfire Emergency Aid
The animation world has teamed up with ASIFA-Hollywood to introduce AnimAID, an initiative aimed at providing aid to those in the industry hit hard by the LA wildfires. The collaborative effort kicked off with a fundraising auction at Sotheby’s, with heavy hitters like Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks, and more, contributing rare and one-of-a-kind animation art pieces for bidding.
Animator Don Hahn, renowned for producing classics like Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Howard, took to Instagram to speak about the cause:
"The animation community's been through a tough time due to the LA fires. Now we're sticking together, donating artwork to Sotheby's for a special auction that'll benefit AnimAID and go directly to those impacted by the fires."
The auction showcases over 90 years of cinematic and television art, including pieces from Snow White, The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Beauty and the Beast, Avatar, and other iconic titles.
Hahn added, "Every bid counts, helping people rebuild their homes and their lives."
The auction is currently underway, and here's a sneak peek at what's on the block. Expect film industry artist commissions, studio tours, signed posters, original animation drawings, and animation cells, along with exclusive experiences.
