Auction Off Exceptional Animation Artifacts to Aid in Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery Funding
The animation community has banded together, partnering with ASIFA-Hollywood to launch AnimAID - a fundraising initiative aimed at aiding industry professionals affected by the devastating LA wildfires. A high-profile auction at Sotheby's, featuring contributions from heavyweights like The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, LAIKA, and more, was kicked off to gather funds.
This charitable event, set to help artists and professionals rebuild their lives, opened its online bidding this week. The heartfelt call to action came from animation producer Don Hahn (Beauty and The Beast, Howard) on Instagram:
"LA's animation community suffered a significant blow from the wildfires. In response, the animation world has come together, donating rare and invaluable art pieces to Sotheby's for a special auction. The proceeds will go directly to AnimAID, an organization set up to support LA fire victims."
The impressive collection showcases over 90 years of artwork from film and television, showcasing classic titles such as Snow White, The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Beauty and the Beast, Avatar, and many others.
Hahn's impassioned plea continued: "Every bid counts, making a real impact in helping the affected individuals rebuild their homes and lives."
The ongoing bidding exhibition features a variety of items, ranging from original production drawings and animation cells to film industry artist commissions, studio tours, signed posters, and more.
