Auction of Animation Rarities and History for Aid in Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery Fund
The animation community has teamed up with ASIFA-Hollywood to launch AnimAID and an auction at Sotheby's to collect funds for industry workers impacted by the LA wildfires. Notable studios like Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, LAIKA, and more have chipped in by donating a diverse collection of rare and exceptional pieces of animation art for bidding.
This generous act comes as the city of Los Angeles works to recover from the wildfires. Animator and producer Don Hahn, known for his work on films like Beauty and the Beast and Howard, spoke about the cause on Instagram:
"The animation industry took a hit from the LA fires. Now, we're standing together by donating art to Sotheby's for a unique auction to benefit AnimAID, with all profits going directly to those affected by the LA fires."
The auction houses an impressive assemblage of animation art from both film and television; think Snow White, The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Beauty and the Beast, Avatar, and many other cherished titles.
Hahn expressed further, "Every bid counts and helps people restore their homes and lives."
The bidding is currently underway, and here's a sneak peek of what's on offer. Other items include film industry artist commissions, studio tours, signed posters, and more, as well as original production sketches and animation cells.
