Auction of Animated Artifacts and Rarities to Gather Funds for Los Angeles Wildfire Emergency Aid

The animation industry, teaming up with ASIFA-Hollywood, is moving full steam ahead with an extraordinary initiative called AnimAID. This initiative, alongside a fundraising auction at the famed Sotheby's, aims to lend a helping hand to individuals in the animation business who have been hit hard by the devastating LA wildfires. Major players such as Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, LAIKA, and numerous other heavyweight studios have generously donated a slew of distinctive and one-of-a-kind pieces of animation art to entice those with deep pockets to join the cause.

The auction is currently underway, with hopes of contributing much-needed aid to artists and professionals within the industry who have suffered displacement or property loss as the city of Los Angeles gradually rebuilds. Animation producer Don Hahn, who has worked on classic titles like Beauty and the Beast and the recent release, Howard, took to Instagram to voice his support:

"The animation community was left reeling by the Los Angeles fires. But now, the animation world is united in offering art - art that is priceless - to Sotheby’s for a special auction. The profits from this auction will go directly to victims of the LA fires through ASIFA-Hollywood's AnimAID initiative."

The assortment on offer ranges from cinema masterpieces like Snow White and Avatar to popular television series such as The Simpsons and Inside Out, as well as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, and many other beloved titles.

Hahn went on to encourage potential bidders: "Every bid makes a difference and helps people rebuild their homes and their lives."

Bidding is ongoing, and you can get a sneak peek at some of the items up for grabs. In addition to original production drawings and animation cells, there will be film industry artist commissions, studio tours, signed posters, and more.
