Atyrau Airport shuts down as severe weather grounds all flights for 24 hours

Atyrau International Airport faced major disruptions over the past day as severe weather forced a temporary shutdown. Passengers were left stranded, with flights cancelled or delayed while maintenance crews worked to clear the runway. Heavy weather conditions grounded all departures from Atyrau for nearly 24 hours. Travellers reported multiple rescheduled flights, though no compensation was offered due to the weather-related delays. The airport’s press service confirmed that runway maintenance was carried out to ensure safe operations. By evening, crews had cleared the runway, allowing limited flights to resume. Five arrivals were scheduled, with two expected and one diverted from its original route. One flight to Almaty was cancelled, while another departure was set to proceed. Authorities warned that conditions could worsen again, urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. The airport is now operational, but uncertainty remains as weather forecasts suggest possible further disruptions. Travellers have been advised to stay updated on flight changes before making their way to Atyrau International.
