Lawyers seeking Trump's intervention for the imprisoned singer's case - Attorney representatives of the jailed musician seek potential support from the former President Trump.
In a surprising turn of events, the legal team of convicted American singer R. Kelly (58), serving a two-year sentence, has reportedly requested help from none other than President Donald Trump for a pardon or sentence reduction. As confirmed by lawyer Beau Brindley to celebrity site "People.com", discussions are indeed underway.
Is R. Kelly under Threat?
Reports suggest that Kelly's team filed an emergency motion this week, accusing select Bureau of Prisons officials of plotting his murder, among other allegations. Consequently, the singer has been confined to solitary confinement, as per Brindley's explanation. They now pin their hopes on Donald Trump: "We believe that President Trump is the only one who has the guts to help us."
Born in Chicago as Robert Sylvester Kelly, the acclaimed musician (known for the hit "I Believe I Can Fly") was a trailblazer of his generation, selling over 50 million albums and racking up numerous awards. Yet, allegations of sexual abuse have shadowed him since the 1990s.
Sentenced to 20 and 30 Years
In 2022, Kelly was handed a 30-year sentence in New York for sex crimes against minors. A few months later, a jury in Chicago found him guilty of having illicit relationships with minors and producing child pornography, which led to a 20-year prison sentence. The judge ruled that Kelly would serve his sentences concurrently. However, Kelly filed an appeal against the Chicago verdict with the Chicago court, but it was denied.
