Get ready to bid adieu to the world-renowned, much-loved Pope Francis (1936-2025), as his funeral is set for April 26. Throngs of people are eagerly anticipated to gather for this poignant event. A diverse gathering of heads of state, Royals, and other dignitaries will be in attendance over the weekend to show their deep respect for the late pontiff. Gracing the crowd will be Queen Mary of Denmark (53).

However, a statement from the palace reveals that Her Majesty herself, the Queen, will attend the funeral mass for His Holiness Pope Francis, happening on St. Peter's Square in Vatican City on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Her spouse, King Frederik X. (56), won't be there. He's busy in Japan until the 25th, as per the statement, with no mention of his attendance in the proceedings.

A Crowded Roster of Royals

In the final visit to Francis before his demise, British King Charles III. (76) and his wife, Queen Camilla (77), made an appearance. Interestingly, it's been announced that his heir apparent, Prince William (42), will take his father’s place at the funeral on Saturday, due to a royal protocol that disallows the British monarch from attending papal funerals[3].

In addition, Prince Albert II (67) and Princess Charlene (47) of Monaco, as well as King Philippe (65) and Queen Mathilde (52) of Belgium, are set to join the audience. The Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon (51) and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (51) will make an appearance, as will King Carl Gustaf (78) and Queen Silvia (81) of Sweden. King Felipe (57) and Queen Letizia (52) will preside over a Spanish delegation's arrival.

Other political figures to grace the proceedings include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (66) and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (69), British Prime Minister Keir Starmer (62), US President Donald Trump (78), and French President Emmanuel Macron (47).

The funeral service for the late Pope Francis will commence at 10:00 AM on Saturday on St. Peter's Square. After that, his bodily remains will be moved to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for interment.
