In the Flensburg Regional Court, a man faced trial, accused of attempted murder and aggravated arson. The accused, 26, was alleged to have soaked a Schleswig apartment's front door and mail slot in gasoline at around 6 AM on February 28th. He then lit the fuel, according to the prosecutor's charging document.

Unfortunately, the apartment's residents—a man and a woman—were still inside. Their lives were put at risk by the high CO2 levels, forcing hospitalization. The incident also caused damage to the wooden apartment door and furniture.

The accused claimed he had believed the couple was asleep at the time, unaware of the danger he was creating. He was aware of the risk that they might suffocate in the flames or inhale poisonous gases.

Prior to the incident, the accused had threatened the couple with a knife. The prosecution argued that the purpose of this attack was to intimidate the man and force him to retract his statement against the accused in another case.

Furthermore, the prosecution alleged that the accused had visited the apartment that same day and threatened the couple with a knife for the same motive.

Initially, only the charging document was presented during the trial. Subsequent court dates have been scheduled, stretching until early November.

The incident resulted in significant damage to the apartment's wooden door and furniture. The couple required hospitalization due to the smoke and harmful gases.
