Attempted Assassination on Life of APC Leading Figure, Sani Shinkafi Unsuccessful
In a shocking turn of events, two prominent politicians in Nigeria, Jude Ezenwafor and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, have recently fallen victim to assassination attempts.
Jude Ezenwafor, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, survived an assassination attempt near Wuse 2 on his way home from an appointment. Ezenwafor, who was seriously injured in the incident, believes that surviving this attempt is a sign that he is destined to be governor. He stated that the gunshot was a pure assassination attempt and that he is very traumatized by the event. Ezenwafor is currently using a walking stick and limps as a result of the incident.
On the other hand, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a former governorship candidate of Zamfara State and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was the target of an assassination attempt in Abuja on August 15. The attackers, masked, heavily armed gunmen dressed in black, blocked Shinkafi's vehicle and attacked him. The attack occurred shortly after Juma'at prayers. Shinkafi links the attack to his outspoken stance on national security, especially his vocal opposition to ransom payments for kidnapping victims in Zamfara State. He had also received multiple threat calls prior to the attempt.
Shinkafi has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate and punish the perpetrators and their sponsors. He considers the attack an "unprovoked attempt" on his life, possibly related to his vocal critique of the insecurity in Zamfara State and other national issues.
