An office belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Rafah, Gaza Strip, was damaged in an attack on Monday, according to the aid organization. In a statement, the ICRC claimed, "Today, our office in Rafah was damaged by an explosive projectile, despite being clearly marked and notified to all parties involved."
Fortunately, this assault left no casualties. However, the ICRC warned that such incidents have direct impacts on their operational capacity and expressed strong opposition to the attack. The organization appealed to all parties in the conflict to safeguard humanitarian workers in Gaza. ICRC also reported losing contact with Palestinian Red Crescent rescue workers on Sunday, and their current whereabouts remain uncertain.
Last week, the Gaza Strip witnessed the loss of lives and injuries among humanitarian workers. Israeli air strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza resumed on Tuesday, after a ceasefire that had been in effect since January 19. On Wednesday, the Israeli army launched a new ground offensive in the Palestinian territory. The military announced a mission in Rafah on Sunday against "terrorist organizations," with Israel stating that the offensive aimed to boost pressure on Hamas to release the abductees under their control.
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip began with an unexpected assault by Hamas and associated Palestinian groups on Israel on October 7, 2023. A temporary truce took hold since January 19, but it had a limited lifespan. As of March 2023, the situation was characterized by an uneasy truce with persistent tensions and no long-term resolution.
