Attack on police officers in Tübingen: Indictment filed

In the wake of a controversial incident in Tübingen, a 32-year-old man from Gambia finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Allegedly threatening two Deutsche Bahn employees before calling the police and causing harm during his subsequent arrest, the man has been indicted on charges that include resisting law enforcement officers and attempted grievous bodily harm.

The incident sparked controversy due to the mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer, voicing concerns to the Interior Minister and Justice Minister. Palmer's actions didn't sit well with some, as there were fears of creating a general suspicion towards foreigners.

The public prosecutor's office in Baden-Württemberg has presented the case to Tübingen district court's court of lay assessors. The decision to bring the case before this particular court is due to the fact that the potential sentence could exceed two years.

During the arrest, the 32-year-old is said to have bitten a police officer and caused an accident that resulted in life-threatening injuries. The public prosecutor's office has been unable to prove the man intentionally caused these injuries.

The charge came down as per the court of lay assessors' jurisdiction due to the possibility of a two-year plus penalty.
