A 36-year-old man, who holds Dutch citizenship, is facing multiple charges for a series of ATM explosions in Hesse, Germany, and Austria. The man is suspected of being part of a criminal organization from the Netherlands.

The indictment was filed by the intervention unit of the General Prosecutor's Office in Frankfurt. The charges against the man include causing an explosion using explosives, theft, property damage, and negligent bodily harm.

The series of ATM explosions began on May 5, 2023, when the suspect and several accomplices allegedly blew up an ATM at the Stadion am Bieberer Berg in Offenbach. The explosion caused approximately 1.48 million euros in property damage and resulted in the theft of around 220,000 euros in cash.

One of these explosions resulted in injuries to a person. An employee of a neighboring company was injured in the explosion.

The group that committed the Vienna ATM explosion fled the scene on motor scooters and went into hiding in Austria. The man is accused of another ATM explosion: on January 21, 2023, in a shopping center in Vienna, obtaining over 89,000 euros.

Prior to the incidents, so-called logisticians prepared the crime by renting apartments and vehicles for transporting the motor scooters. The explosives used were brought from the Czech Republic to Austria.

A European arrest warrant was issued against the man, and he was arrested on January 22, 2023, on the A3 motorway in a car with an Austrian license plate. The General Prosecutor's Office in Frankfurt took over the prosecution of this case from the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office.

The man also has a previous conviction for an ATM explosion on April 13, 2017, in Willich-Schiefbahn (North Rhine-Westphalia).
