Atletico Madrid successfully secures contract with championship-winning forward Raspadori
Atletico Madrid have strengthened their attacking options for the upcoming season with the signing of Napoli striker Giacomo Raspadori. The Italian international, who has impressed in Serie A and for the Italy national team, has joined Diego Simeone's side on a five-year deal.
Raspadori is Atletico Madrid's 10th signing of the transfer window, and the third from Serie A, following the arrivals of Axel Witsel and Matheus Cunha. The 23-year-old striker will be looking to help Atletico Madrid improve on their 2024-25 campaign, where they finished third in LaLiga and were eliminated from the Champions League in the last 16.
In the 2024-25 Serie A season, Raspadori scored six goals in 26 appearances for Napoli, a total only bettered by Romelu Lukaku (14) and Scott McTominay (12) for the club. In total, Raspadori's Serie A career (up to May 2025) includes a total of 164 appearances with 31 goals scored for Sassuolo and Napoli combined. For Napoli specifically, in 109 matches, he scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists.
In addition to his impressive record in Serie A, Raspadori has also impressed for the Italy national team. He has earned 40 caps, scored 9 goals, and provided 6 assists since his debut in 2021. He was part of the Italy squad that won UEFA Euro 2020.
Raspadori's arrival further bolsters Atletico Madrid's attacking options, with the club aiming to challenge for major honours in the 2025-26 season. Atletico Madrid's 2025-26 LaLiga season opens away to Espanyol on August 17.
