Atiku's Joining APC Is Unfeasible; Momodu Disputes Okowa's View That Atiku Is Desperate

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has hit back at former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's accusation concerning Atiku Abubakar's loyalty to the PDP.

Our platform reported that Okowa, in a Tuesday interview, suggested that Atiku might head for the All Progressives Congress (APC) like he once did.

In a Wednesday appearance on Arise News, Momodu denied the claim, saying Atiku is no desperate politician.

Momodu regarded Okowa's switch to the APC as an irrational move, driven more by opportunity than logic. He claimed Okowa, struggling to justify his defection, was trying to defend a political hierarchy.

According to Momodu, Okowa, a previous PDP secretary and governor for eight years, should have acquired enough political capital to aspire for higher positions within the party instead of deserting its ranks.

"Yesterday, I watched an interview of former Governor Okowa.

He was battling to defend a political faction. When people say PDP isn't shining, what else does Okowa seek? He has served as secretary, governor, and even had an opportunity to be Atiku's running mate. What fruits did he gather? That's why I called his move to the APC an opportunistic leap. We need to be honest about it.

Why the rush? Tinubu hasn't even reached half-time," Momodu contended.

Momodu claimed that the 2023 PDP vice presidential candidate was wrong to predict Atiku's departure for the APC.

"I'm not speaking for Atiku, but the Atiku I know isn't a desperate politician. His decision-making skills reek of a seasoned democrat. I met him about four weeks ago in Abuja, and he told me politics should be played fairly. You win gracefully, lose gracefully, and reassess your strategy. That's why you can find PDP thugs guarding Atiku's home.

"To suggest Atiku will join the APC is far-fetched—that's a guarantee,” Momodu added.

PDP Governors' Rejection of Coalition Plans

Although not directly stated, the context hints that debates about PDP loyalty could be linked to PDP governors' rejection of coalition plans[source: Arise News Instagram reel on April 14 and reports of PDP governors rejecting Atiku Abubakar’s merger proposal][source: 4]. This rejection could have influenced Momodu's emphasis on maintaining PDP cohesion rather than defecting.
