Athletics setback for Arshad Nadeem at the World Athletics Championships
World Athletics Championships 2025: Keshorn Walcott Claims Gold in Men's Javelin Final
In a thrilling conclusion to the men's javelin final at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott clinched the gold medal with a throw of 88.16m. This marks Walcott's first global title since his Olympic gold in 2012.
The competition was held in a blustery breeze at the National Stadium, with Walcott dominating the event from the start. London Olympic champion Walcott produced the two longest throws of the evening to secure a first world championship medal.
Grenada's Anderson Peters finished second with a throw of 87.38m, while former champion Anderson Peters from Grenada took the silver medal with a throw of 86.11m.
Curtis Thompson from the United States won the bronze medal with a throw of 86.67m, edging out Julian Weber, who finished ahead of Sachin Yadav in fourth place with a personal best of 86.27m.
India's defending champion Neeraj Chopra struggled to a best attempt of 84.03m and finished eighth in the final. Kenya's Julius Yego, the 2015 world champion, failed to finish the competition due to turning his ankle on his third attempt.
Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan's star javelin thrower, failed to qualify for the top eight in the final. Nadeem opened the final with a throw of 82.73 metres, placing him seventh after the first round. His third throw measured 82.75 meters, but he committed a foul on his fourth attempt.
The world-leading 91.51m recorded by a title contender at the Diamond League final in Zurich last month was not achieved in the men's javelin final at the World Athletics Championships 2025.
Walcott, who is 32 years old, has previously won Olympic gold and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. His victory at the World Athletics Championships 2025 marks a remarkable comeback for the Trinidad and Tobago athlete.
