In the closing game of the first day of the Champions League, a historic match took place between Kairat Almaty, a little-known team in Western Europe, and Sporting Portugal.

The game started with a bang as Francisco Trincao, a former Barcelona player, scored the first goal for Sporting Portugal with a long-range curled shot. Kairat Almaty, however, responded quickly, with Edmilson Santos scoring the first goal in the history of Kairat Almaty in the Champions League with an unstoppable volley.

Despite being a goal down, Eintracht Frankfurt turned the game around before halftime. Wilfried Singo scored an own goal for the opposing team just before halftime (45+4), and Can Uzun scored a goal for Eintracht Frankfurt just before halftime as well (45+2).

The second period saw a flurry of goals. Galatasaray struggled to maintain their level of play and conceded two more goals. In quick succession, Sporting Portugal scored three consecutive goals by Trincao, Alisson Santos, and Geovany Quenda. However, Eintracht Frankfurt fought back, with Ansgar Knauft scoring a goal assisted by Elye Wahi (75th minute), and Jonathan Burkardt scoring another goal (66th minute).

Despite a missed penalty by Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, Kairat Almaty trailed throughout the game. Edmilson Santos managed to reduce the score to 4-1 for Sporting Portugal, but it was not enough to change the final result.

The coach of Kairat Almaty, Rafael Urazbakhtin, led them to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in the club’s history in 2025. Despite the loss, Kairat Almaty can be proud of their performance against one of Europe's top teams. The final score of Eintracht Frankfurt's match is not specified in the given paragraph.
