Athletic runner Farken is attempting to break the mile record once more, with Ogunleye Istaf serving as his second.
In the recent ISTAF Berlin meeting on July 27, 2025, Robert Farken broke his own German record for the mile, running a time of 3:48.83 minutes. This impressive performance saw him finish third in the event, which was won by Norway's Narve Gilje Nordås with a personal best of 3:47.68 minutes.
Farken's new time is the fastest mile ever run by a German athlete, surpassing his previous record of around 3:49.1 minutes set just a few weeks earlier. The previous record, held by Farken himself, was inferred from the 0.3-second improvement he achieved in this year's ISTAF.
Internationally, Farken's time ranks behind Nordås and Italy's Federico Riva, who set an Italian national record with 3:48.11 minutes. These three athletes were the top performers in the mile event at ISTAF Berlin.
| Athlete | Time (mile) | Record Status | Position at ISTAF Berlin 2025 | |-----------------------|-------------|-----------------------|------------------------------| | Narve Gilje Nordås | 3:47.68 | Personal Best | 1st | | Federico Riva | 3:48.11 | Italian National Record | 2nd | | Robert Farken | 3:48.83 | German National Record | 3rd |
Farken expressed his happiness with his performance, stating that his goal for the race was achieved. He also mentioned his plans to compete in the World Championships in mid-September in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, in the over 400m hurdles, Eileen Demes won with a personal best time of 54.29 seconds, meeting the norm for the World Championships.
Elsewhere in the event, Algerian athlete Yasser Triki won the triple jump with a distance of 17.00 meters. Max Heß, former European champion and Olympic seventh-place finisher in triple jump, finished second with a distance of 16.04 meters.
In the discus throw, Swedish athlete Fanny Roos took the victory with a throw of 19.04 meters, while discus throw Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye finished second with a throw of 18.88 meters. Ogunleye has improved her personal best to 20.27 meters this season.
Max Heß also jumped to silver in the triple jump at this year's indoor European Championships with a distance of 17.43 meters.
Farken finished third in the Berlin ISTAF, despite a strong final sprint. As he looks forward to the German Championships next weekend in Dresden, it's clear that he remains a force to be reckoned with in German athletics.
Sports enthusiasts will be excited to know that Robert Farken, the current German record holder for the mile, plans to compete in the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo. In the most recent ISTAF Berlin meeting, he ran a impressive time of 3:48.83 minutes, making him the fastest German athlete in this event. This race saw Farken finish third, with Norway's Narve Gilje Nordås and Italy's Federico Riva ahead of him, both achieving personal best times.
