Athletic prodigy Duplantis clears yet another height milestone, establishing a new pole vault world record for the 13th time in his career.
Mondo Duplantis Breaks Pole Vault World Record for the 13th Time
Mondo Duplantis, the double-Olympic champion, has once again made history in the world of pole vaulting. On August 12, 2025, at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial meet in Budapest, Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record, raising it to a staggering 6.29 meters (20.636 feet).
This new mark improved upon his previous record of 6.28 meters set in June 2025 at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm. Duplantis cleared 6.29 meters on his second attempt, establishing a new world record and the first ever world record at the Gyulai Memorial.
Duplantis had a rare early miss at 5.62 meters during the Budapest event but recovered to set the world record. His performance in Budapest saw him soar 15 centimeters higher than the previous record set by Sergey Bubka six years earlier.
The Swedish athlete has now competed at the Silesia Diamond League twice, breaking the world record there last year. This latest achievement marks the 13th time Duplantis has set a new world mark in pole vault. He first broke the pole vault world record in 2020 in Poland with a leap of 6.17 meters.
Duplantis expressed his love for Hungary and the crowd, and expressed a desire to return. After the event, he celebrated with his partner Desire Inglander and family.
Duplantis was unsuccessful on his first try at the new height but rattled the bar slightly on his second effort. After Greece's Emmanouil Karalis retired having failed twice at the same height, the bar was raised for Duplantis' world record attempt.
The previous world record in pole vault was set by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie six years earlier with a leap of 6.16 meters. Duplantis' latest record-breaking performance continues to cement his status as one of the greatest pole vaulters of all time, holding the world record and multiple championship records including world and Olympic titles.
Duplantis remains the current world record holder and is widely recognized for his exceptional consistency and ability to break his own records under pressure. Despite missing most of the press conference before the Budapest meeting due to time management issues, Duplantis has promised to continue pushing the boundaries of pole vaulting and exciting fans around the world.
