Updating the Urban Scene: Nauryzbai District's Plans for a More Playful and Fit Almaty

It's time for some excitement in Almaty, and the Nauryzbai District isn't holding back! Deputy Akim, Baglan Dandybaev, recently spilled the beans about upcoming projects as part of the district's participation in the city-wide "Budget of Participation" program. As per Almaty.tv's report, these projects are all about creating a more playful and active Almaty for everyone.

Baglan Dandybaev shared the details, stating that the district is lining up a range of projects, totaling 124.2 million tenge, which are sure to put a spring in your step. The projects include two children's sports playgrounds, making their way to Ashimova - Aitmatova Street and Aktambet Zhyrau Street. There's even a basketball court awaiting you on Abai Dacha Street, straddling Central Street and Aktambet Street in the Kalakaman microdistrict. Let's not forget the fitness enthusiasts as well – three workout zones will be installed on Nurmukhamedov Street to keep you in tip-top shape. Further, a basketball court will bless the Taujolys microdistrict, and togyzkumalak game areas will pop up as well.

But wait, there's more! Remember to act fast, because the application process for 2021 in Almaty is already underway, and submissions will be accepted until October 5 on the website budget.open-almaty.kz. Whether you're a resident or part of a community group, this is your chance to get in on improving Almaty's urban environment.

As for the typical ins and outs of these participatory budgeting programs, here's a quick rundown: Residents or groups submit project proposals, complete with essential supporting documents, and then the applications are reviewed by municipal experts or a special committee to determine feasibility and compliance with budgetary regulations. Following this, the green-lit projects are put up for public voting – the projects with the most votes move forward for implementation the following year.

While Almaty's Budget of Participation program specifics are not provided in abundance, visiting the official participatory budgeting web portal or contacting Almaty's city administration (akimat) will grant you access to the most current and exact program details, project lists, and application procedures. Happy voting, Almaty!
