Athletic director of Fresno State, Garret Klassy, contemplates and clarifies his future strategies

Fresno State's new Athletic Director, Garrett Klassy, has emphasised the need for upgraded facilities at the university, with particular focus on the potential expansion of Valley Children’s Stadium, the home stadium for Fresno State Bulldogs football.

In an exclusive interview conducted by Stephen Hicks, Action News sports director, Klassy discussed the changing college landscape and narrowed plans for the future, although the details remain undisclosed. The interview, however, suggests that Klassy is focusing and refining the vision for athletic facilities and programs during his tenure.

Klassy's first year at Fresno State has seen the university enter its final year in the Mountain West Conference. The conference has been a home to Fresno State since its membership in 1999. However, the interview did not discuss any plans for future conferences after Fresno State leaves the Mountain West Conference.

Valley Children’s Stadium, a key venue, has hosted major events such as Fresno’s first-ever concert by Shakira in August 2025, demonstrating its capacity and prominence as a central athletic and event facility in Fresno.

Klassy is scheduled to discuss NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) issues as well as potential stadium expansion on KMJ radio, indicating that stadium improvements are being actively considered.

Garrett Klassy, Fresno State's new Athletic Director, also expressed interest in other sports apart from football, mentioning potential enhancements for basketball, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, mixed-martial-arts, and racing, as he aims to refine the university's athletic facilities and programs. During the interview, Klassy did not disclose specific plans, but hinted at the possibility of sports-betting integration being a part of the future developments at Fresno State. Furthermore, sports-analysis tools might be deployed to evaluate and improve the university's athletic teams' performance. Lastly, in an effort to contribute to the community's broader entertainment scene, Valley Children’s Stadium could host events beyond college sports, such as concerts and racing events, showcasing its versatility and potential as a popular venue in Fresno.
