Athletic competitor Andrew Coscoran geared up for the most significant 1500m race of his career in the World Athletics Championship finale
Andrew Coscoran Vies for Podium Position in World Athletics Championships 1500m Final
Ireland's Andrew Coscoran is set to compete in the final of the 1500m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, promising an exciting race for spectators.
Coscoran qualified for the final after a thrilling performance in the semis, where he finished fifth in a bunched finish following a scramble of legs near the finish line. His time in the semis was not his personal best, but his determination and resilience were evident.
"I'm buzzing after my performance in the semis," Coscoran said. "It was the race of my life." These words echoed by David Gillick, who praised Coscoran's semifinal performance, calling it "what a performance."
To secure a podium position, Coscoran will have to go faster than he ever has before. The field for the men's 1500m final is stacked, with Britain's Josh Kerr, the reigning champion, having the fastest personal best (PB) in the field at 3:27.79. The fastest athlete of the season is Niels Laros of the Netherlands, with a time of 3:29.20. Timothy Cheruiyot, who won silver at Tokyo 2020 and gold at the 2019 World Championships, has a PB of 3:28.28.
Joining Coscoran in the final are Adrián Ben (ESP), Jonah Koech (USA), Niels Laros (NED), Robert Farken (GER), Jake Wightman (GBR), Timothy Cheruiyot (KEN), Josh Kerr (GBR), Tshepo Tshite (RSA), Reynold Cheruiyot (KEN), Federico Riva (ITA), Neil Gourley (GBR), Isaac Nader (POR), and Samuel Pihlström (SWE). Only Britain's Neil Gourley has a slower season's best (SB) than Coscoran this season.
As the World Athletics Championships final for the 1500m is scheduled for 11.15am, spectators can catch Coscoran's race on RTE2 and RTEplayer. Meanwhile, Fionnuala McCormack came home ninth in the marathon for Team Ireland, while Nicola Tuthill finished 11th in the Hammer. Sarah Healy finished 10th in the women's 1500m for Team Ireland.
Andrew Coscoran is exactly where he wants to be in the world final. With his resilience, determination, and impressive performance in the semis, he is ready to take on the world's best and aim for a podium position.
