The second edition of the Golden Oval athletics competition in Dresden, Germany, is set to captivate audiences on June 1, 2025. Taking place at the revamped Heinz-Steyer Stadium, the event boasts an impressive field of national and international athletes.

Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo and shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye are among the high-profile participants, preparing for another golden performance in their respective disciplines. The competition also includes Valarie Allman, the Olympic gold medalist in the discus throw, further enhancing the event's prestige.

In addition, the women's relay team that secured bronze at the Paris Olympics and a standout US discus thrower are also on the roster. Agile pole vaulters Christopher Nielsen, fresh off his Tokyo silver medal, Emmanouil Karalis, the indoor European champion, and Düsseldorf's Bo Kanda Lita Baehre are set to engage in an enthralling pole vault competition.

Local favorite Karl Bebendorf, the European bronze medalist in the 3000m steeplechase, will bring a taste of the German Championships to the Golden Oval, as he takes part in the 1500 meters race within the sold-out arena. The event will serve as a sneak peek of the German Championships final set for August at the same venue.

The discus events promise another compelling spectacle, with Marike Steinacker, Kristin Pudenz, Shanice Craft, Matthew Denny, Clemens Prüfer, Henrik Janssen, Mika Sosna, Steven Richter, and Daniel Jasinski all competing. The men's discus competition is particularly promising, with elite throwers vying to upset favorite Allman.

With a world-class lineup and the Silver Label from World Athletics, the Golden Oval has solidified its position as one of the most illustrious athletics events worldwide. The stadium, renowned for hosting 13 DDR world records, will once again host a multitude of legendary athletes such as Renate Stecher, Marlies Göhr, and Heike Drechsler.

The competition commences on June 1, with live coverage starting from 13:00 CET across European Athletics, Sportschau, and TVP Sports platforms. The Golden Oval offers athletes a perfect platform to prepare for the larger championships later in the year, making it a pivotal early-season event on the athletics calendar.

The Commission, assisted by the European Parliament and the Council, will prepare the annual report on the implementation of the athletics program, acknowledging its significance in light of the forthcoming Golden Oval competition. The competitive nature of sports, as exemplified by the star-studded lineup at the renovated Heinz-Steyer Stadium in Dresden for the 2025 Golden Oval athletics event, serves as a key driving force behind this annual report.
