The renovated Heinz-Steyer Stadium in Dresden will play host to a stellar lineup of athletes this Sunday (LIVE on Sportschau.de, 13:00 CET; ARD from 15:30 CET). Among the contenders are Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo, shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye, US discus thrower Valarie Allman, and the women's relay team that earned bronze at the Paris Olympics.

The event schedule includes 16 competitions, promising a day of thrilling athletics. American Christopher Nielsen, the Tokyo silver medalist in pole vault, joins a formidable roster, challenging European indoor champion Emmanouil Karalis from Greece and local hero Bo Kanda Lita Baehre of Düsseldorf.

Adding a touch of local flavor, Karl Bebendorf of Dresden SC 1898 will contest the 1500m. Europe's bronze medalist in the 3000m steeplechase just broke a new German record in the 2000m steeplechase last week.

The German Championships are due to take place at the same venue in early August, and spectators at this week's event will catch a glimpse of the competition in the 400m race. Corinna Schwab from Chemnitz, Johanna Martin from Rostock, Jana Lakner and Mona Mayer from Regensburg, along with Annkathrin Hoven from Leverkusen, are expected to put on a competitive show.

In the discus events, spectators can look forward to exciting matchups. Marike Steinacker, who took fourth place at the Tokyo Olympics, Kristin Pudenz from OSC Potsdam - a silver medalist in Tokyo - and European medalist Shanice Craft from SV Halle will challenge favorite Allman for the win in the women's event.

The men's competition promises to be equally intriguing. Matthew Denny from Australia, an Olympic bronze medalist and recent winner in Doha and Halle, will test his skills against other top-tier athletes like Clemens Prüfer, who ranked sixth at the Tokyo Olympics; Henrik Janssen, who claimed eighth place at the World Championships; Mika Sosna (TSG Bergedorf); Steven Richter (LV 90 Erzgebirge); and Daniel Jasinski, an Olympic bronze medalist from Wattenscheid.

The Golden Oval has earned a Silver Label from World Athletics, solidifying its place among the top athletics events worldwide. This stadium, a witness to 13 DDR world records, holds a rich tradition, having played host to athletes like Renate Stecher, Marlies Göhr, Rosemarie Ackermann, Evelin Jahl, Ruth Fuchs, and Heike Drechsler, who all set world records here.
