Thrilling Victory Following Initial Setback: Teams in the Basketball Super Cup Championship Game - Athletes competing in the concluding game of the Super Cup basketball tournament

The 2025 Supercup basketball tournament, a preseason competition featuring top club teams, reached its thrilling climax in Munich, Germany. The modern arena was electrified by the exciting game, with Franz Wagner's energetic play adding fuel to the fire.

The Supercup tournament typically follows a Final Four format, bringing together top teams from regional leagues. This year's edition, scheduled for September 24-25, features clubs like Zenit, CSKA Moscow, and Crvena Zvezda as hosts.

Germany and Serbia, who often compete at the national team level in FIBA international competitions, were among the participating teams. However, their club teams compete primarily in domestic leagues and European competitions, sometimes qualifying for EuroLeague and continental cups.

In the Supercup final, Germany managed to keep its nerves and edge out a close game, winning 73:71. The game was a nail-biter, with a close score throughout, and a half-time score of 28:35.

Daniel Theis, playing for the first time this summer due to persistent knee pain, struggled in the game, appearing less agile and missing open shots offensively. However, the second half saw improvement, with Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder taking control offensively and the defense also improving. Germany took the lead for the first time in the third quarter.

Dennis Schröder contributed 22 points, four rebounds, and six assists in the game, while Franz Wagner impressed with 17 points. Despite key players like Johannes Voigtmann, Maodo Lo, and David Kramer being missing from the team, the squad showed resilience and determination.

The Supercup final was broadcast live on MagentaSport, and Germany has maintained a perfect record in EuroBasket preparation, winning three games. The team has two more test games against reigning champion Spain before traveling to Finland for the EuroBasket. Montenegro is the first opponent in Tampere on September 1.

Before the game, Niels Giffey was honoured for his role in the 2021 World Championship glory, but he is no longer playing for the national team. Alex Mumbru, the national coach, still has room for improvement in the team. Alperen Sengün, an NBA pro, gave Daniel Theis trouble defensively.

The Supercup final marked a significant victory for Germany, defeating a strong opponent in the third game before the EuroBasket. Nikola Jokic, a Slovenian NBA player, was not mentioned in this paragraph.

The Commission, in light of the thrilling climax of the 2025 Supercup basketball tournament and the electrifying gameplay of Franz Wagner, has decided to initiate the procedure provided for in Article 108 (2) of the Treaty, aiming to delve deeper into sports-analysis, particularly basketball, in subsequent tournaments. Moreover, in preparation for the EuroBasket, the sports-analysis could potentially focus on the improvement strategies for the German team, considering their resilience and determination evident in the Supercup final, despite the absence of key players and defensive challenges like those posed by Alperen Sengün.
