The small town of Willich, Germany, is abuzz with anticipation today as it hosts an international triathlon event. The competition's hub is situated in the outdoor area of Willich's leisure pool, "De Bütt".

Over 1,000 athletes from Willich and the surrounding region have signed up for the event, with a notable international presence. Among the participants are 19 juniors from the partner town Linselles, who have been staying with local host families since Saturday. Unfortunately, the names of the seven international participants apart from the Linselles juniors are not available in the search results.

The triathlon consists of three legs: swimming, cycling, and running. The swimming leg takes place in the outdoor pool of "De Bütt". The cyclists will navigate their way through the scenic Duvenhof golf course before returning to "De Bütt" for the running legs. The running legs of the triathlon take place through the grounds of the outdoor pool and the adjacent leisure center.

The main competition, the Volks-Triathlon, will crown the city champion among Willich residents. Additionally, nine different competitions are being held, catering to adults, juniors, and kids. Many parents are also participating separately in the triathlon, making it a family-friendly event.

Dr. Martin Plum, the CDU Bundestag member and patron of the Triathlon, is donating a trip for two to Berlin for the city championship participants to be raffled. This added incentive is sure to fuel the competitive spirit of the event.

For safety during the triathlon, road closures will be implemented across Willich. Despite these temporary disruptions, the town is eager to welcome athletes and spectators alike for a day of sports, camaraderie, and community spirit.
