Biles on the Fence About Competing in Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
Downplaying retirement rumors, gymnastics legend Simone Biles shares thoughts
"I've had a hell of a ride in my career and achieved more than I ever dreamt possible," the four-time Olympic gold medalist shared during a recent interview, "But right now, I'm still in the recovery phase, mentally and physically, after the Paris Games. I've given so much since I started, I just want to relax and see where my heart takes me before making any decisions", Biles expressed.
Holding the title of the most decorated gymnast ever, Biles secured three more gold medals in Paris last summer, marking her triumphant return to the competition scene after a lengthy hiatus to prioritize her mental health.
Fans worldwide filled the Bercy Arena in 2024, cheering Biles on as she received the Comeback of the Year award. Its presentation honored her enduring spirit, particularly after her withdrawal from the team all-around final at Tokyo 2020, a move prompted by a condition known as "twisties".
Despite the hype around her potential participation in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Biles is far from making a firm commitment. "A lot of people think it's a one-year endeavor, but it's actually a four-year grind before the Games. LA is my hometown, no doubt. But I can't promise anything just yet. My future competitions are still iffy - I might be on the apparatus or in the stands," she hinted.
At 28, the gymnastics icon finds herself at a crossroads, considering the physical toll the sport has taken on her. "I was literally a mess after the Paris events," Biles recounted,"*I was sick for 10 days afterward. With the 2028 Games being five years away, I need to think long and hard about my health and whether it's worth another four years of training."
Simone Biles' enthusiasts anxiously await her official decision on whether she will return to competition for the 2028 Games. In the meantime, the queen of gymnastics maintains her crown, keeping options open for some involvement in her hometown event.
